PATRICK BEAULIEU
Orford (Quebec)

Approach

Patrick Beaulieu is a multidisciplinary artist whose art is expressed through performative journeys, sculpture, videos, photography and installations.

For about 12 years, his work has evolved around the experiences and encounters he has had on his poetic, performative journeys across North America, Europe and Asia, particularly Méandre, L’échelle de Beaufort – La marche du vent, Transfriable, as well Vegas, Ventury and Vecteur Monarque that he has carried out in collaboration with writers, philosophers, graphic designers and landscape architects.

The result of these travels is a corpus of visual work inspired by natural phenomena (winds, tides and migratory cycles), luck, chance or the synchronicity of situations.

Project

In the context of the Baie-Saint-Paul Symposium, Patrick Beaulieu will go on a series of short performative excursions during which he will attempt to arrive at imaginary destinations with the aid of people he meets along the way. By exploring and altering the region’s toponyms, he will try to identify and reach fictive places, relating to local geography and history. He may very well be able to find some of his imagined places.

His work in front of the visitors will be to assemble the vestiges of these ambulatory experiences and to share them in the form of short videos, photographs, geo-poetical maps and diverse collections of objects. During the last week of the eventat the end of August, Patrick Beaulieu will invite the public to accompany him to discover the improbable places that he has found.
