Bernard Pourrière

Biography

Bernard Pourrière holds a diploma from the École supérieure d’art of Aix-en-Provence. He now lives and works in Gardanne, a French town close to Aix-en-Provence and Marseille.

Over the past 20 years, the artist has exhibited works regularly in galleries and exhibition centres, in France and other European countries. He has exhibited at Galerie Karima Célestin of Marseille, at the Loop Art Fair of Barcelona, in Spain, at Galerie Depardieu, in Nice and Espace pour l’art, in Arles (2014).

As visual artist, he has worked with dancers, choreographers and musicians for performances and creations involving sound. On several occasions, he has been resident artist in France and in China, thus enriching the development of his approach. His participation in the International Symposium of Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul is another stage in this journey.

Approach

Bernard Pourrière explores the sound material as it relates to the movements of the body in a given space, as well as to the body as it interacts with new technologies. His works take the form of performances, videos and installations that are occasionally interactive. Within the context of these works, he gathers and compiles movements and actions of everyday life that he will later use for in situ productions, particularly during periods of artistic residency.

The artist questions the evolution and transformation of human living as it is shaped partly by the evolution of new technologies. He is interested in displacements, movements and gestures of the body within a space, as it correlates with the universe of the multimedia.

Project

In Baie-Saint-Paul, the artist’s project will relate to the human body executing repetitive gestures and movements of everyday life. He will observe the city as it goes through its daily routine to find a creative angle that leads to something else, something imagined that casts a new eye on living spaces and on ourselves. His work will feature the street as a field of experience and enrichment.
