_Bio Élisabeth Perrault was born in Joliette in 1996, and now lives in Montreal. She holds a BFA from Concordia University (2020). Specializing in textile sculptural installations, she is revisiting traditionally feminine crafts, connecting textiles to maternal symbolism. Since 2021, she has participated in various projects, including solo and group exhibitions across Canada and in Europe, notably in Toronto, Vancouver, Genoa and Montreal. Currently a sculpture student at Concordia University, she was awarded a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and is now preparing a solo exhibition at Maisonneuve (2024).
_Approach Elisabeth Perrault creates sculptural textile installations in which human forms, everyday objects and organic matter serve as surreal allegories. The techniques employed to transform materials by hand, which form the basis of her creative process, are commonly referred to as craftsmanship. She views textiles, a material traditionally associated with womenhood and domestic spaces, as a maternal bond. "Comparable to a second skin, textile fabric reveals a certain intimacy, vulnerability and sensitivity." Like a mold, she uses her own body to create her sculptures, sewing fabric directly onto certain body parts to borrow their shape.
_Project For the Symposium, Elisabeth Perrault will create a large-scale sculpture combining fabric and organic matter. This sculpture will be inspired by iconic art-historical paintings depicting drowned women.
