Marc Séguin, Symposium Spokesperson

Marc Séguin was born in Ottawa on March 20, 1970. He received a BFA from Concordia University and presently lives and works in Montreal and New York City. Right away in 1996, his first solo exhibition presented large-format paintings that were of an arresting calibre. This exhibition attracted the favourable attention of critics and collectors.

A talented printmaker as well as a prolific painter, Marc Séguin’s work was selected by curators at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal for inclusion in the now celebrated De fougue et de passion group exhibition of 1997. Then in 2000, they invited him to present a solo exhibition of his large paintings on the theme of a medieval rose window. This exhibition also was shown in France at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris during the summer of 2001, and travelled to various Canadian cities in 2003.

Since 2000, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec have acquired major works. And Marc Séguin’s prints and paintings are found in numerous corporate and private collections in Quebec, Canada and the United States. To date, Marc Séguin has had more than twenty solo exhibitions and participated in as many group exhibitions and international art fairs in Madrid, Barcelona, Venice, Berlin, Cologne, New York, Miami, Chicago, Brussels and Namur.

Marc Séguin is also a novelist and in 2009, he published La foi du braconnier for which he received the 2010 Prix littéraire des Collégiens. In 2012, Hollywood, his second novel, was a finalist for the 2013 Governor General’s Literary Award in the category of French-language fiction.

In 2002, Marc Séguin participated in the International Symposium of Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul. And in 2013, the Musée d’art contemporian de Baie-Saint-Paul presented an exhibition of his work La Foi du collectionneur. For a second consecutive year, Marc Séguin is the spokesperson for the International Symposium of Contemporary Art.
