APPROACH Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc’s installations depict architectural spaces and elements which draw from postmodernism through the juxtaposition and collage of architectural references. She takes up this artistic exploration through a blend of old and modern references within the same work. Employing materials and techniques derived from the fields of construction and renovation, her composite and incongruous assemblages create an interleaving of indoor and outdoor facings. These constructions depict incomplete architectural spaces, made up of manufactured materials such as wood and drywall and textures printed on paper. She frustrates building codes through the precariousness of the framework and the incongruous nature of her architectural compositions.
PROJECT Ann Karine Bourdeau Leduc wishes to develop the project Il faut bâtir avec les roches que l’on a in the form of a laboratory. Her in situ installation brings together drawings and constructions of architectural elements made out of drywall. She wishes to draw on clapboard facings, rooftops with garrets, decorative window frames, decorative brickwork around windows and other elements to carry out her project. This ephemeral construction will be guided by the site. Through its drawings, the viewer will discover an incongruous quality by means of the juxtaposition of architectural references and of multiple vanishing points, a near absence of perspective and inconsistent scales. Nothing will be functional in the proper architectural sense; rather, the artist will propose an archetypal vision of architecture.
