_L’arche-rencontre – Incarner les paysages In this immersive workshop, Jiwan proposes a sensitive and collective exploration of the link between body and territory. After a period of bodily activation inspired from theater and somatic imagination, participants will be invited to mold their hands - or other accessible, comfortable body parts - in playful containers. These plaster prints will then be grafted onto a large aluminum arch, a symbolic form of passage, transformation and encounter. Presented throughout August, this first outdoor sculpture created by the artist will welcome the unique traces of participants. Jiwan will lead several collective casting sessions from August 11 to 18. No artistic experience is required - only the desire to participate in a shared work of art and leave your mark.
_Biography With a background in theater and the performing arts, Jiwan has developed a practice in sculpture and installation that brings together the animal, plant and human worlds. They explore the fluidity of identities, the diversity of bodies and the relationships between living beings and their ecosystems. Their work has been presented at a number of venues in Quebec, including Centre Materia, Musée de la civilisation, Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent, Manif d'art and Diamant. Winner of several awards in 2022, including the Centre Materia Grand Prix, Jiwan also received Première Ovation grants between 2022 and 2025. Alongside their practice, they lead cultural mediation workshops with a variety of audiences and work as a metal technician at Œil de Poisson. Trained in arts and crafts (sculpture option) at the MMAQ, Jiwan sees creation as a space for listening, transformation and connection with the living.
_Approach Jiwan is an artist and sculptor with a background in puppetry and theater. Their practice is characterized by hybrid creations where the animal world, the plant world and the human body meet. Their research focuses on the diversity of bodies, the fluidity of identity, and the relationship between humans and nature. Their work often takes as its starting point casts of human bodies, onto which structures of various kinds are gradually grafted, covered with embroidery and ornamentation that evoke a theatrical universe.
