_Effet Papillon / Butterfly Effect / Efecto Mariposa Butterfly Effect is an interactive installation inspired by the Monarch butterfly, an iconic species linking Canada and Mexico through its annual migration. Maria Ezcurra explores connections between human and non-human migrations, emphasizing transformation, collective survival, and shared memory. The public is invited to take part in this evolving artwork, contributing to a sensitive mapping of contemporary migrations.
_Biography Maria Ezcurra is an artist and educator born in Argentina, raised in Mexico, and based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal since 2010. Her work explores themes of migration, identity, and belonging through participatory installations and repurposed materials. She has exhibited internationally and teaches art at McGill and Concordia. A recipient of several awards, she creates spaces for intercultural dialogue and community engagement.
_Approach Maria Ezcurra’s ecofeminist art practice explores migration and identity through repurposed materials, textiles, performance, and installation. Inspired by both human and natural trajectories, she investigates the relationships between body, land, and memory. Her participatory work creates bridges between personal and collective experience, inviting reflection on our interconnection with other beings and the places we inhabit.
