Biographie d'Anaïs Castro :
Anaïs Castro is a curator and author based in New York and Montreal. She holds a master's degree from the University of Edinburgh and a bachelor's degree from Concordia University, she has held various positions at institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada, Arsenal Contemporary Art, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and Stills – Scotland's Centre for Photography. She collaborated with Gaëtane Verna as assistant curator on Kapwani Kiwanga's project at the Canadian Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale.
In addition to her institutional roles, Castro has an independent practice that has led her to organize exhibitions and projects in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, and China. Her recent projects include Cruel to be Kind (Montreal, 2023), Material Knowledge (New York, 2022), Mystic Toolkit (San Antonio, 2022; Montreal, 2020), Ground Control (Berlin, 2019), and Over My Black Body (Montreal, 2019; Berlin, 2018). She is also co-founder of the curatorial collective The Department of Love, which has presented projects in Shanghai, London, and online.
Her career has been marked by residencies and research programs, including the first edition of the Shanghai Curators Lab (2018) and stays at AiR351 x CAC (Lisbon/ Torres Vedras, 2025), the International Studio & Curatorial Program (Brooklyn, 2021), Artpace (San Antonio, 2019), Art in General (Brooklyn, 2019), Titanik (Turku, 2017), and as a guest critic at BCA (Burlington, 2016). In 2026, she was selected to participate in the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation's Propel program.
A guest lecturer at institutions such as Parsons School of Art and Design (New York), Triangle Arts Association (New York), Centre Clark (Montreal), School of Visual Arts (New York), and Galerie de l’UQAM (Montreal), she also contributes to various publications and is part of the editorial team at Daily Lazy.
